Summary

In the summer of 1994, psychologist Daniel Hill buys a rustic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia。

Along with his wife, Nora, and their teenage daughter, Alice, the family uproots their lives in Ohio and moves south。 At first, they are seduced by the natural beauty of the farm and enjoy the bonding experience of fixing the old house, but that all changes when they discover a hidden room in the basement with a well, boarded shut and adorned with crucifixes。

Local legends about the previous owner’s predilection for performing exorcisms come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose。

I would rate it 3。5 which to me means I liked this book! For more context, most books for me fall between 3 and 4。 The pacing was great, and of all the characters, I really liked Nora's, the wife/mom, arc the best。 I think she actually had the most depth and that's what I missed with the other characters。 I didn't really buy that Daniel, the husband, was a psychologist or at least a good one。 He seemed a bit too flippant to me。 There are some good creepy vibes throughout and no shortage of gross I would rate it 3。5 which to me means I liked this book! Another house full of unbelievably stupid people。 Yes, there must be a certain suspension of disbelief in order to read a haunted house tale, but seriously, these people should have left in Chapter three。

This one was pretty good! For a pretty standard demon haunt story this was well written and interesting。

4。5/5A new twist on a haunted house story。 Fast paced and gripping。 I enjoyed the characters and the story and found the back story very interesting。 Bonus points to some scenes that creeped me out!

I'm a sucker for good Exorcism books。 Two of my favorite books are The Exorcist and Boys in the Valley。 This is another solid book in that category。 There were a few twists I didn't see coming and a few Exorcism troupes I did see coming。 There was a very cheesy part at the end but I do love some cheese! I will definitely read another book from this author! This book was amazing and spooky from the first page。 I was hooked。 The story line and the way the author describes everything gave me clear visuals。 I am a sucker for possession/haunting stories and this one did not disappoint。 I will be recommending this to all my horror loving friends!

The Hill family moves into a house on the countryside。 It's former owner (Merle Blatty, love his last name) was an exorcist with a tragic history。 Will the newcomers survive? Things get out of hand when Daniel Hill opens the door to the basement。 What does he find there? A gateway to hell? What about his pregnant wife and daughter? Well written horror novel with reference to Amityville and The Exorcist。 A very grim evil entity and some sinister passages。 Some passages were a bit slow but I liked The Hill family moves into a house on the countryside。 It's former owner (Merle Blatty, love his last name) was an exorcist with a tragic history。 Will the newcomers survive? I’ve not read many exorcist books, but I really enjoyed this one! It was fast paced, and I loved the family dynamics the author gave the characters! And it had an ending that left you reeling! I can’t wait to check out more work by him!

Good to the last gory drop! The imagery in this book is so good that I actually slept with my light on a few times。 I chose this book because I'm a fan of horror in general and the exorcist is one of my all time favorites。 I didn't have high expectations of this book because the subjects been over done but this book reeled me in from the very beginning。 Good to the last gory drop! The imagery in this book is so good that I actually slept with my light on a few times。 I chose this book because I'm a fan of horror in general and the exorcist is one of my all time favorites。 I didn't have high expectations of this book because the subjects been over done but this book reeled me in from the very beginning。 。。。more

I had a great time with this book。 Finished it in a day because I couldn’t seem to put it down。 Demonic possession is one of my biggest fears。 I loved the writing and will be reading more from this author。 He had a great flow and nothing seemed forced。 Some of the scenes were a tad cliché but there aren’t too many ways to write a book about exorcisms without having something that’s been done before。 Nevertheless I was hooked from start to finish and would recommend to anyone looking for a posses I had a great time with this book。 Finished it in a day because I couldn’t seem to put it down。 Demonic possession is one of my biggest fears。 I loved the writing and will be reading more from this author。 He had a great flow and nothing seemed forced。 Some of the scenes were a tad cliché but there aren’t too many ways to write a book about exorcisms without having something that’s been done before。 Nevertheless I was hooked from start to finish and would recommend to anyone looking for a possession story。 Thanks to books of horror Facebook group for the suggestion。 。。。more

I love it when a Book completely surpasses my expectations。 When I was first asked to review this Novel, my response was that I don't normally read fiction dealing with the demonic。  I deal with that enough already in my own life。 However, sometimes a Novel surprises me。  And this one did。  This gets about as close to the truth as you're going to get。  Nick Roberts' is also a fabulous Author。  Not only did this entertain me。  But the last quarter of the Book actually scared me。  I highly recomme I love it when a Book completely surpasses my expectations。 When I was first asked to review this Novel, my response was that I don't normally read fiction dealing with the demonic。  I deal with that enough already in my own life。 However, sometimes a Novel surprises me。  And this one did。  This gets about as close to the truth as you're going to get。  Nick Roberts' is also a fabulous Author。  Not only did this entertain me。  But the last quarter of the Book actually scared me。  I highly recommend。 。。。more

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。Crystal Lake Publishing is one of the first places I look when I want some solid horror。 I'm happy to say that 'The Exorcist's House' definitely hit the high notes as far as good, solid horror is concerned。Our story takes place in the 90s (love a bit of retro (can you call the 90s retro? Is it old enough for that? And should I be using a bracket inside brackets? Who knows?) and took me back to when I was growing up in a time before I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。Crystal Lake Publishing is one of the first places I look when I want some solid horror。 I'm happy to say that 'The Exorcist's House' definitely hit the high notes as far as good, solid horror is concerned。Our story takes place in the 90s (love a bit of retro (can you call the 90s retro? Who knows?) and took me back to when I was growing up in a time before smart watches/phones/tv's/everything。 Any time I get to inhale a bit of nostalgia, I love it。 And I loved this。I will admit, I do prefer my horror to be a little more inconspicuous, where this was very overt horror。 Once I accepted this was going to be a bit more in your face rather than creepy and spine-tingling, I adapted as a reader and enjoyed it more than if I'd simply stuck to my guns and wanted slow-burn creepy。The aspect of telling a tale set in the present and the past, is always a dynamic I enjoy reading。 It's easy to do, but it's also easy to get wrong。 This was certainly more right than wrong。 My only wish is that there was a little bit more done with the past entries than there was, but the whole thing came together well enough that it was a small complaint rather than one with any real weight behind it。One thing I thought the author did very well was throw in some very (and I mean very) obvious character tropes/characteristics which had me thinking 'I know where this is going'。 Only for me to sit there after all was said and done thinking 'Huh, turns out I didn't know where that was going after all。' So well done Nick for making me think I knew everything when I really didn't。The Exorcist's House is a snappy (just under three-hundred pages), fun, horrory read that's bound to delight fans of the demonic possession style of horror。 It's very easy to picture this book turned into a film, the author does a very good job with the visuals and his overall storytelling and strength of writing is solid。There are some very graphic scenes, so it might not be for everyone。 But, if you go into a horror novel expecting sunshine and rainbows then you kind of deserve what you get in my opinion ;)All in all, this was very enjoyable with only a couple of personal issues knocking it down from a five to a four。 I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for Nick's future works。 。。。more

From the very beginning, this book shows great promise。 Quite atmospheric, at times genuinely creepy and also emotional。 It's not a classic possession story - there are too many plot twists for that。 It takes you on a great ride, never knowing where it might lead you: it poses as a Conjuring-type story but the great characters, the good and the bad, the family interaction and the story of the house adds a quasi-gothic element to the mix, turning the story into a well-crafted page-turner with all From the very beginning, this book shows great promise。 Quite atmospheric, at times genuinely creepy and also emotional。 It's not a classic possession story - there are too many plot twists for that。 It takes you on a great ride, never knowing where it might lead you: it poses as a Conjuring-type story but the great characters, the good and the bad, the family interaction and the story of the house adds a quasi-gothic element to the mix, turning the story into a well-crafted page-turner with all the right ingredients of an excellent horror novel。 The fact that we get to know most of the characters before the situation escalates, allows us to care about them and reading on to see how the whole mess is going to blow up。 And blow up it does! This was such a good read! It was thrilling, scary, and very well written! (I did have a few restless nights, because well it’s my triggers; even with movies) However, though it freaked me out, I really did enjoy it!! I’d recommend to anyone who is looking for a read that will make you cringe!

It seems like a typical story。 A family looking for a fresh start moves into a haunted house and all hell breaks loose。 In this case, however, Hell literally resides in the house and once you have been infected, you can’t just move away to break free。 This book checked off all my favorite boxes: ghosts, demons, possession, good vs evil, twisted scenes, surprise turns, exquisite imagery, and a loyal canine friend。 If these are the characteristics you look for in a good read, this book is for you。
